let's get started with todays question!:
The question of today is:
What should I do first when starting my business?
If you’re an artist, designer, stylist, creator,... and have a question about how to start and grow your creative BIZ, send me your question and I would love to answer it!
This is a pretty hard question! I will try to give you an answer you can do something with. But before I give you some really actionable tips I want you to be honest ask yourself the following questions:
Are you ok to live without a steady income? Are you in it for the long haul?
Next, please watch this video:
Are you willing to eat those shit sandwiches?
If the answer is yes, prepare yourself for the big jump!
Don't procrastinate starting your business, but there are a few things to do and consider before you quit your day job and jump right into it.
Before you officially start your business you should do the following.
Write down your goals for the next 6 months, first year, 3 years and 5 years. Be as concrete about it as possible! Don't censor yourself!
Plan out how you’re going to achieve these goals! Again, be as clear about it as possible!
Take your big goals and break them down into monthly, then weekly, then daily goals and activities.
Build up a buffer. You will need to have some money to invest in materials, courses and other things you will need. Take a look at your plan to find out how much money you will need! Plan in some extra, because there will always be some unexpected things happening.
Talk to an accountant and an attorney to find out what you need to do to start a business. Then it is time to take action! Follow your plan!
Check in with your goals at least once a month! You will see what you will have to do to achieve your goals or you can adjust your goals if necessary.
So there you have it!
I hope this answer will help you! It is also good to check in with those 6 steps even if you already started your business.
I adjust my big plan every few months, because some things go faster than expected and some take much longer!
You probably think you don't need an attorney right away, but I would really recommend to start talking with one. They will help you a lot. It is never too early to start thinking about your business as a pro. You’re in for the long haul so you want to make sure to build your foundation strong!
