let's get started with todays question!:
The question of today is:
I would like to know, how do I stand out in the crowd as an artist?
The Q’n A of the day comes from Juliette Wells.
If you’re an artist, designer, stylist, creator,... and have a question about how to start and grow your creative BIZ, send me your question and I would love to answer it!
This is a really common question, and one that is going to come back to you in your whole career as an artist. The answer is easy and complex at the same time. The most important thing to stand out is to be yourself. You need to be yourself!
Don't do anything that is against your values, don't try to be something you’re not! Always keep in mind that you need to find yourself and be yourself in order to stand out.
Take a look at Tiffany Pratt, she is an amazing example of being herself and successful!
However, it is always a good idea to take a look at other creatives that are doing what you would like to do to.
If you do not know what you want to do yet, take a step back and find out first, then go on with the following tips.
Search for 5 people that are doing what you want to do or at least partially.
Study what they are doing, and ask yourself what is it that makes them interesting for you? What is making them successful? What is attracting you? Think about what you can learn from them. What is it that makes you want to do the same?
Make some notes and see what insights you’ve gained. You can model their strategies matching your own personality.
Important note as you go is, you can model someone else’s processes and ideas, but you should never plainly copy them. So get some inspiration from others. Combine your insights to your unique version of their actions and start taking action.
Another important thing is to be consistent, don't stop at the first bump in the road. If you want to achieve your goals you need to keep on going. Standing out in the crowd is not happening overnight, it will eventually happen when you’re doing your thing every day!
Never think you’re the only one struggling with being consistent. This is a constant struggle from myself as well. Life is busy and sometime we have good intentions, but we don't follow through. Don't beat yourself up when it happens. Just start taking action again and go on following your goals.
Another thing, as creatives we love to create. I can be in my studio painting, making papers and drawing all day long. It is just my thing and it's flowing in the studio. But if you want to make a living from your creations you need people to know you. So you have to go out into the world and let people know what you’re doing!
This part is crucial especially in the beginning.
It is hard to post over and over on the blog when nothing is happening.
But over time, when you keep on putting yourself out there, people will start to recognize you.
Until then you just need to keep going!
Start taking action and you will start to see results. Even the little results are worth a celebration, so don't forget to celebrate your little wins.
A little recap:
Take a look at people that do what you want to do and find out what makes them successful!
Model their strategies into your own version of taking action!
Take consistent action!
Put yourself out their!
Keep on taking action!
So there you have it!
